EMDR Therapy
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy (EMDR) is a psychotherapy treatment that was designed to alleviate the distress associated with traumatic memories and/or present-day and future anxieties. This style of therapy will carry a different feel to the sessions than a typical talk-therapy approach. A trained therapist will guide you to think about your trauma or your anxious target while moving your eyes back and forth, left to right. Over time, this reprocessing will help to lessen emotional and physical distress as well as install adaptive belief systems about yourself along the way. This style of therapy is an evidence-based approach and works well with these sorts of issues: PTSD, single-incident trauma, panic attacks, generalized anxiety disorder, sexual/ physical/ emotional abuse history, and addictions.
